Japanese Dragonfly Lantern Earrings Dragonfly This flowering of glass artAn ancient name for Japan was Akitsu shimu or "dragonfly isle". Dragonflies symbolize good luck and were believed to be the spirit of the rice plant. Here they adorn a paper lantern, an integral part of Japanese culture. The 500 year old Feast of Lanterns, or Obon, ends with floating illuminated lanterns down rivers.
